Beautiful Hokkaido

>> 16 June 2010

We were filled with excitement and anticipation while on our flight to Japan. Upon arrival at Narita International airport, we proceed for our dinner. We had a sumptuous seafood dinner. Oh my, the seafood was very fresh, especially the giant fleshy prawns. We proceed to the romantic town of Otaru. It is a lively port city which is famous for its canal and glasswork shops. We get to admire the art of hand blown glassware and ancient antique lamps displayed at the historical red brick building (Otaru Music Box Museum).

I went back to my five stars hotel for a night rest and soaked in the hot spring bath. It was so relaxing that i instantaneously placed all my troubles to the back of my mind. After a good night rest, I woke up early in the cold morning to take a stroll along the street of Otaru canal. After having the breakfast in the hotel, we went to Ishiya chocolate factory for an opportunity to learn how to make delicious chocolates. We also visited Sapporo beer factory which is the only beer museum in Japan.

We went to Asahikawa which is one of Japan's gourmet towns. I was amazed by the number of restaurants available in the area. We had a fabulous lunch which includes the nationally famous Asahikawa ramen noodles, mutton barbecue (Genghis Khan) and the popular Otokoyama sake.

It was one of the best meals that I had for a long time. After some photo taking session, we went to Otokoyama sake brewery museum. It has a rich history of sake brewing and we got the chance to taste some of the most famous sake in the world.

To be continued..
